The target
This site aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA.
What is in place
- A skip link to the main content, and a visible focus ring on everything focusable.
- Body text is gated at a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background, checked by a script rather than by eye.
- Colour is never the only signal. Every category that has a colour also has a label, and usually a glyph.
- Motion respects
prefers-reduced-motion: animations do not run at all rather than running faster. - Headings are a real outline, not text sized to look like one.
- The navigation and every button are at least 44px. Every other control clears the 24px minimum WCAG 2.2 sets, measured on the rendered page rather than assumed — the exception being links inside a sentence, which WCAG exempts and which are 19px and up here.
Known gaps
- Testing so far has been by keyboard and by automated contrast checking. It has not yet been through a screen reader end to end, and that is the next thing.
- Anything embedded from a third party is only as accessible as whoever built it.
- These pages are checked by script at three widths. A script can only find the faults somebody thought to look for.
